The Challenges of Medical Aid in Dying: Yom Iyyun in Memory of Rabbi Jim Michaels z”l
The program is divided into two parts. The first part addresses practical, emotional, and physical issues raised by using MAID. Our speakers will include Ms Stella Dawson whose family used MAID and Dr. Katalin Roth who has been involved in several procedures. This session helps to educate us on why, how and when MAID is used and the safeguards in place under the law (we will focus on the DC statute)
The second panel will focus on questions of halacha — religious law — when is MAID permissible and what protections are necessary and how do we address the spiritual needs of the person choosing MAID and their families.
